How should a person do tayammum if he cannot find water or if he cannot use water?
How to take Tayammum instead of Wudu or Ghusl in 5 steps
Step 1. Niyyet it
Step 2. Repeat all the steps below three times: 3x
- Place both palms simultaneously on dry and clean earth, sand, or stone (in that order of preference).
- Move both palms together from the top of the forehead (where the hairline begins) down to the bridge of the nose, ensuring the sides of the forehead, the area near the ears, and the eyebrows are included.
- Wipe the entire back of the right hand by sliding the left palm over it from the wrist bone to the fingertips.
- Wipe the entire back of the left hand by sliding the right palm over it.
Thats all. Remember to perform step 2, for 3 times May Allah accept all of our prayers
When to Perform Tayammum
You should perform Tayammum instead of Wudhu or Ghusl in the following situations:
- When there is not enough water available for Wudhu or Ghusl.
- If acquiring water for Wudhu would put your life or property at risk, or if obtaining water is impossible.
- When using the available water would leave an insufficient amount for drinking, potentially leading to dehydration, illness, or hardship for yourself or your dependents.
- If washing your face and hands with water would be harmful to your health.
- When water is present, but you do not have permission to use it.
- If performing Wudhu or Ghusl would result in missing all or part of the prayer due to time constraints.
- When your body or clothing is ritually impure (najis) and you only have enough water for either Wudhu/Ghusl or purification of your body/clothing, but not both.
